The spectacle blind flange is a highly versatile piping component. It consists of a solid blank on one side and an open ring on the other, connected as a single unit. Its shape resembles the number "8", hence the name figure 8 blind flange.
It is normally installed between two flanges. Rotate the solid blank into position between the flanges to block pipeline flow. Rotate the hollow ring into place to open the pipeline. Operation is flexible and convenient.
Carbon steel is the most widely adopted material for figure 8 blinds, followed by stainless steel. Carbon steel spectacle blind flanges are commonly applied to pipelines carrying neutral and non-corrosive media, while stainless steel spectacle blind flanges offer excellent cost performance for pipelines with moderately corrosive media.
