Research on reducers includes flow field analysis, structural optimization, finite element analysis, and failure analysis.

In 2025, Ran Dong, Ji Weiao, Zhang Zaoxiao, and Duan Quan published "Flow Field Analysis and Structural Optimization Research of Reducer at Centrifugal Compressor Outlet" in Compressor Technology. This study used the Realizable k-ε turbulence model in FLUENT software to numerically simulate reducers with different diameter ratios, analyzed the flow field characteristics, and provided theoretical support for optimization design.

In the same year, research also focused on the optimization and finite element analysis of end caps and reducers.

Other related research includes numerical simulation of the flow field inside reducer pipes (2013), research on the influence of the eccentricity ratio of reducer pipes on the flow rate distribution (2017), failure analysis of the reducer of the float-type liquid level switch in a high-pressure heater of a nuclear power plant (2019), analysis and treatment of abnormal hardness in the P91 steel main steam reducer of a 300 MW unit (2021), and the problem of secondary wave localization in ultrasonic testing of reducer welds (2023).
